The RATTsters Nail Rugby Spring Fair

 May 2, 2017

Lewis and EmilyA group of 8 young singers supported by local talent development charity Rugby Area Talent Trust proved to be the stars of the show at this year’s Rugby Spring Fair on Sunday 01 May, providing several hours of live music entertainment along with Rugby covers band Last Lesson.

Lois Arrow, Ellen Goodwin, Emily Goodwin, Georgia Reid, Lewis Graham, Ben Mulley, Flo Bannigan and Oliwia Dragon all produced superb performances, enhanced by a fantastic presentation on the biggest RATTstage ever. A full size truckstage, full-on sound system, backdrop lighting, interviews and introductions by BBC presenter Dan Sambell, and a 6 piece band provided our young performers with a truly memorable experience that will also enhance their confidence, boost their understanding of working in the music industry, develop technical skills and learn about collaboration.

David Head, Trustee at RATT said “This was the biggest and best team performance yet from the young singers that RATT supports and we are immensely proud to be working with them. This was a truly professional show and really enhanced the overall Spring Fair by bringing a touch of festival feel and the buzz that live music can always add to an event.”

The young performers, who were introduced by Dan as “The RATTsters”, each performed their own set in the first half of the show, returning later to perform again with Last Lesson. Another stunning rendition of Stand By Me from Oliwia, a gritty Mustang Sally from Lewis and a delightful and perfectly delivered Use Somebody from Flo were particular highlights. Emily’s I Predict a Riot was a surprise change of tack for the most experienced RATTster and showed off her ever increasing stage confidence, something we also saw in Ellen and Lois in their great fun version of Blame it on the Boogie.

Like at the Mayor’s Charity Gala in January the set closed with Pharrell Williams’ Happy, with the Mayor again getting up on stage to join in the fun.

The Spring Fair was then wrapped up with a 40 minute set from Last Lesson, including classics such as Mamma Mia, Price Tag, Honky Tonk Woman, and Love Shack. The band produce a big sound and are probably one of the best covers bands in the region with Amy and Ruth’s powerful and accurate vocals being backed up by top-notch confident and natural musicians who clearly enjoy being in the spotlight and who love working with the next generation of talent emerging in our town.
